United States: With high temperatures, the cases linked to West Nile Virus have also increasing. Recently, the Central Texas reported second human cases whereas Hays County reported its first-ever human case of the West Nile Virus.
While explaining the details regarding the first-ever case, the officials of the Hays County Health Department (HCHD) mentioned that the infected person resides in the 78610 zip code area.
Along with this, the DSHS has mentioned that it has confirmed a second positive mosquito pool in the unincorporated area of the 78666 zip code on July 23 (Tuesday) and the first reported positive mosquito pool for WNV in Hays County was reported on July 19 (Friday).
Symptoms associated with the infection!
The health experts have briefed that the symptoms experienced by an infected people are fever, headache, body ache, skin rash and swollen lymph nodes. The most severe and contagious symptoms are experienced by the individuals aged 50 or more and the ones who are dealing with weakened immune systems.
While addressing the case, the Epidemiologist of Hays County – Ian Harris, mentioned, “West Nile Virus is not contagious and that humans are ‘dead-end host,’ humans are not capable of transmitting the virus to other individuals.”
Along with Hays County, Williamson County also reported its first-ever human case linked to West Nile Virus on July 19.
After reporting the first case, the health officials have asked the residents to follow following Ds and also avoid mosquito bites.

DEET: Whenever you’re outdoors, apply insect repellents that contain DEET or other EPA-approved ingredients. Always adhere to the instructions on the label for safe and effective use.
DRESS: Opt for long, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing when spending time outside. This helps minimize skin exposure and makes you less attractive to mosquitoes.
DRAIN: Ensure to eliminate or treat all standing water in and around your home or workplace. Stagnant water is a prime breeding ground for mosquitoes, so be vigilant in removing potential habitats.
