Amazing Discovery: Binary Star System Found Near Milky Way’s Black Hole 

United States: Astronomers say that they have found something colossal near the Milky Way’s central black hole. Astronomers have already detected another binary star; meaning two stars which are mostly in close proximity with each other around the black hole at the center of our galactic disc. 

The main importance of this discovery is that it validates a guess that was made about ninety years ago. Details of the team’s discovery which were presented in a new paper that was published in Nature Communications on Wednesday. 

Scientists have almost like earlier speculated that there could be a binary star system – two stars that revolve around their common center of mass – close to the black hole in the galactic center, which is called Sagittarius A*, the paper adds. 

According to Abc News Karl Jansky an American engineer was in the 1930s which here investigating whether there was interference in the radio transmission between America and also here in Europe this is how he made the discovery, Peissker, an astrophysicist at the University of Cologne in Germany who authored the paper said. 

Among them the study funded under this name Jansky pinpointed Sagittarius A*, which is a supermassive black hole located at a distance of 26,000 light years from the Earth. Later observations showed that this area radiates bright emissions, and the scientists of that time did not understand what the ‘bright blob’ was, as Peissker mentioned.

This was the first time that stars have been photographed near a supermassive black hole and the first-time detailed observations of stars orbiting the bright emission were made; this occurred only in the 1990s, Peissker added. Andrea Ghez, an astrophysicist at UCLA in the early 2000s, identified a very young star in the region, which is probably not more than some million years old. 

Because stars are normally born in groups of two or three or quadruplets where one star is the black hole, people assumed that binary stars were orbiting near the black hole, Peissker said. 

The high-velocity stars and other dusty objects revolving around Sagittarius A* are grouped as the” S-cluster.” The S-cluster is a area of space that has never been able to be penetrated by and science equipment until now and the binary star system has never been found by scientists. 

Peissker and his colleagues identified the binary star system using the ESO’s “Very Large Telescope”, one of the largest and most powerful optical telescopes in the world.
