United States: SpaceX was somehow unable to launch at midnight on Sunday from Cape Canaveral, but they managed it and hereby now preparing for a midnight launch on Monday from Kennedy Space Center. This launch will ultimately help mark the end of a record-breaking year for the Space Coast.
The Sunday launch involved a Falcon 9 that launched off Space Launch Complex 40 of Canaveral Space Force Station to deliver communications satellites for Astranis Space Technologies Corp.
The mission was initially planned for December 20 but was canceled after the booster shut down when the clock hit zero. SpaceX had to change boosters in the mission.
As reported by phys.org, this one, on the seventh flight but the first since this year’s Crew-8 and Polaris Dawn missions, landed on the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic.
It was the 92nd launch from the Space Coast for 2024 , which has already surpassed the 72 of all the suppliers of the 2023 by 20 and one more to come.
SpaceX’s final launch of the year could come at midnight with another Falcon 9 carrying 21 Starlink satellites set to lift off from KSC’s Pad 39-A during the launch window that runs until 3:28 a.m. and backup opportunities on December 31st within the such time slot.
The weather squadron working for Space Launch Delta 45 has predicted a 60% probability of favorable conditions since its front will pass through the Florida peninsula on Sunday.
That first-stage booster is flying for the 16th time, having flown the Crew-6 mission, among 15 other previous flights. It will attempt a landing on droneship, Just Read the Instructions, in the Atlantic.
Saturday’s liftoff will also festive up SpaceX’s operations as it also launched Starlink mission from California in the late hours of Saturday.
