United States: A small city in Kentucky has been gaining popularity for high usage of the weight loss drug Ozempic. The city is well-known for the highest consumption of the drug across the country.
Where to Find Ozempictown, US?
In the heart of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a new moniker has emerged—“Ozempictown, USA.” This sobriquet has taken root as weight reduction clinics have proliferated, drawing individuals like Jenn O’Brien, Leslie Stark, and Tina Carter. These three women shared their transformative journeys with NewsNation, revealing astonishing weight losses of 60 pounds, 45 pounds, and 70 pounds, respectively.
The meteoric rise of this weight loss remedy in Bowling Green is, in part, due to its newfound affordability.

While the original Ozempic medication can set one back by thousands monthly, smaller establishments like Select Health have tapped into a more economical alternative—“compounds,” generic versions crafted in local pharmacies, available for just a few hundred dollars each month, as per Newsnation.
Patient Testimonial: ‘Food Noise is Gone’ with Ozempic
Bowling Green’s own nurse practitioner, Lena Gokey, notes that half of her clientele is on these weight loss drugs, having personally shed 50 pounds herself using the medication.
“Patients began reporting something they called ‘food noise.’ At first, I had no idea what they meant. The first patient told me the noise was gone. I was puzzled, asking, ‘What on earth is food noise?’ They explained that it was the constant preoccupation with food, a relentless thought pattern they hadn’t even recognized until it vanished with the medication,” Gokey recounted.
She further elaborated, “My practice became so inundated that I had to bring in additional help. Now, we’re a team of three nurse practitioners with a staff of twelve,” as reported by Newsnation.
The Financial Weight of Weight Loss
Kentucky finds itself ranked sixth in the nation for obesity, with nearly half its residents grappling with excess weight. While the compounded version of this weight loss solution is more budget-friendly than Ozempic, it still remains beyond the financial reach of many.
“I’m a single mother with a son to care for. I simply can’t afford it. I have to work,” a Bowling Green resident confided to NewsNation, expressing her surprise at the number of people using these compounds. “It’s not just about poor eating habits; it’s astonishing how many people prefer this route over-exercise. Exercise is definitely healthier.”
Reportedly, those who are on the drug maintain that physical activity and healthy eating are part of the regimen but insist they couldn’t have achieved their results without the medication.

“I feel like a completely different person. It’s a mental challenge because, deep down, I still perceive myself as the person I was,” O’Brien remarked.
“When I’m at the gym and see a 50-pound weight, I realize that’s the burden I was carrying around. I can’t even lift it now. My back pain has diminished without that excess weight, and overall, I just feel better,” Carter shared.
However, some individuals who discontinued Ozempic to save money reported to NewsNation that they regained nearly all the weight they had lost.
