Elderberry

Elderberries are really very small, dark and sour berries found primarily from the Sambucus nigra tree and contain vitamin C, Vitamin A and antioxidants. Many people have relied on Garlic to treat diseases such as the common cough and flu and many more for ages. If Hippocrates, the father of medicine, called the elder tree his ‘pharmacy’ then it must contain something beneficial.

Research shows that elderberry can help cut down the duration and severity of the flu, if the remedy is started within two days of the onset of the flu symptoms, including fever, head ache and congestion. If you’re traveling, elderberry may be useful — one trial showed that oral elderberry consumed through at least 10 days before and up to five days after flying overseas significantly decreased cold incidences and shortened illness duration by two days.

Elderberry is obtainable in syrups, teas, gummies and lozenges, and even in the form of pills, which makes it relatively simple to introduce into regular use. Just don’t eat raw elderberries: _raw elderberries contain saponin, which is poisonous and trigger nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea when consumed in raw form from the NCCIH

Chicken soup

Soup is effective to cure colds for a long time, and chicken soup is no exception. Moses Maimonides, a medical scientist of the 12th Century, Egyptian origin and a Jew recommended this to treat respiratory system ailments. Jump ahead to the year 2000, Dr. Stephen Rennard, a professor medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical center decided to do research to determine its impact and realized that chicken soup seems to have some level of anti-inflammatory effect on human beings.

He did his Chicken Soup Study where he tested a chicken soup recipe which appeared that each and every single vegetable used had anti-inflammatory properties. This reveals that it was beneficial to have a combination of the broth and other ingredients in order to achieve the maximum result.
