United States: Two Iranian men have been also hereby charged for a deadly drone attack earlier this year that killed three U.S. soldiers and also injured many more. Mohammad Mahdi Sadeghi, who worked for a company in Massachusetts, was already arrested in the U.S. Mohammad Abedini was arrested in Italy, and authorities are working to bring him to Massachusetts.
Two men are accused of violating the export control laws.
They are said to have supplied sensitive technology that was used to cause death through drone attack to Iran. Abedini has other charges awaiting him that include conspiring to offer material support to Iran.
As reported by the Fox News, ‘When we discuss the risks of American technology falling into the wrong hands, we use hypothetical risk,’ said U.S Attorney Joshua Levy. “Well, in this case, we are not guessing,”
These charges are connected to a Jan. 28 attack on U.S. forces – the first of its kind since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began in October 2023.
The couple was then arrested after FBI identified the navigation system on the drone to belong to an Iranian Firm owned by Abedini. He depended on technology that Sadeghi brought from the U.S, according to the officials.
Sadehgi from Natick, Massachusetts “left this country that host him to build an arsenal of weapons to be used against US service members,” said FBI Boston field office head Jodi Cohen in a statement.
According to the prosecutors, the company, owned by Abedini, manufactures navigation systems for drones and has links to the Iran IRGC. He was also accused of plotting with Sadeghi to violate American export control laws or obtain restricted technology into Iran through a shell company in Switzerland.
The three army reservists were Sgt William Jerome Rivers, and Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders and Spc The two gentlemen were among several US military’s paratroopers that were killed during an ambush in Afghanistan last year in August.
Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, all Georgia residents – were killed on Jan. 28 in Jordan and 47 others were injured when a drone attacked a small military base known as Tower 22 near the Syrian and Iraqi border.
All three were in the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade at Fort Moore Georgia.
