Vitamin C Therapy Doubles Survival in Pancreatic Cancer, Defying All Expectations

United States: A new study showed that giving high doses of vitamin C through an IV to people with late-stage pancreatic cancer helped them live twice as long. The study, which is already, published in Redox Biology, found that patients who intentionally took vitamin C along with chemotherapy survived 16 months, compared to only 8 months for those who didn’t.

They went further to describe it as fatal disease with extremely low survival rates for the patients. For the patient’s median longevity, with treatment there is eight months and possibly even less without treatment, and the five-year survival is small.

When we began the trial, we assessed we would be lucky if we could achieve an overall survival of twelve months, however overall survival was doubled to sixteen months.

As reported by the Studyfinds, these were so much positive in terms of demonstrating or showing the benefit of this therapy to patient survival that the trial was immediately stopped early,” said Joseph J. Cullen, MD, FACS, who is basically a professor of Surgery and Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa in a statement to Studyfinds.

Out of 40 patients with stage 4 pancreatic cancer recruited on the study, 34 of them were randomly assigned into two groups.

The first group had standard chemotherapy consisting of gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel. The other group was also treated with the same chemotherapy with intravenous administration of 75 grams of vitamin C, thrice a week.

The median survival was slightly better for patients who had chemotherapy and vitamin C at 16 months. Those who only underwent chemotherapy only lived a median of 8 months.”

What it does do is increase overall survival, plus the patients do not look or feel too bad with this treatment. There are fewer side effects, and it seems they can endure more of the treatment, and that has been evident in other trials as well,” Cullen added.

Here is more positive information about using intravenous high dose of vitamin C in cancer therapy. After learning about alternative treatments for cancer, Bryan Allen, MD, PhD, a professor and chief of Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa, and Cullen began a trial of high dose vitamin C with chemotherapy and radiation for glioblastoma, a deadly brain cancer. These patients also had better survival rate.

Cullen, Allen and other colleagues are studying, antioxidant properties of high dose intravenous vitamin C for about two decades.

They demonstrated that IV vitamin C produces high levels in the blood that cannot be achieved by taking vitamin C orally and the high concentration results in the changes in the cancer cells which really make them more vulnerable to the chemotherapy and the radiation. Also, Cullen describes the results of their innovation and perseverance as highly encouraging.

Through every step of the process, it continued to improve, and we did it in the cells and it worked great, and we did it in the mice and it also worked great and then our phase one trails also looked very much promising so, there is a progression has just been phenomenal and really Cullen Tells. Study Finds. For example, in our of our phase 1 trials for the pancreatic cancer and where we combine the high doses of IV Vitamin C with radiation, we still have three long term survivors.
